Day 5b: Wood in architecture 

The forest sector’s contribution to sustainability of the built environment in Alpine Europe

Destination: Izola & Dragonja, Slovenia


This course is coordinated by Oregon State University in the US with University of Primorska in Slovenia. While we were in Slovenia, we visited the new building of Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies (FAMNIT) in Izola.

We were welcomed by The Rector. Then continued by a presentation from Andreja Kutnar as a professor in FAMNIT and Director of Innorenew CoE (Renewable materials and healthy environments research and innovation centre of excellence).

We also had a tour to see some of research labs in the new building.


In the night, we had an architecture lecture about renovation of the accommodation that we stayed, Casa Vuki.
