Diwali Celebration in Christchurch, 2012

Diwali or Deepavali, popularly known as the “festival of lights,” is a Hindu festival. This ancient tradition symbolising the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and the renewal of life.

In Christchurch, The Diwali Festival of Light was celebrated all day with a great variety of events. This photo below pictured an Indian man playing tabla, that  is usually used in Hindustani classical music.


The stage was then showing Indian traditional fashion show with ladies wearing sari/saree.


Sari/saree is a strip of unstitched cloth, worn by women, ranging from four to nine yards in length that is draped over the body in various styles.
